Started packing
Finally started packing today. I just realised what a shitload of stuff I
have to bring to the US, formal wear, informal wear, bed sheets, pillowcases,
blankets etc. Don’t really know how I’m going to fit everything in. Have to meet
Ms Tay at the airport at 5am on Saturday morning. I want to sleeeeeeeeep! Sheesh.
Bought a waistpouch today, figure that’s the best way to carry all my things
around, cash, traveller’s cheque, passport, visa, air tickets, etc. Too think
for my wallet, and probably safer this way. It also takes my sunglasses! hehe.
Went to MOE to collect my Passport, visa and air tickets. Man. I am so not
looking forward to flying. I won’t bitch about that session muchly.
Went to church and met Miriam there, we went out for a drink later and talked a
bit. Prayed very long today for the choir, they are all wonderful people. Don’t
know if I’ll see Miriam tomorrow, I may just walk to her house and say goodbye
to her family, they’ve all grown on me, Miriam, Hannah and Deborah are more like
sisters or cousins now.
Anyway, I must pack, had a great time with Miriam and am still very happy.
10 miles and what have we learned
The ten-mile run this past Saturday was very interesting. Actually this
last week of training has been very interesting. Monday I played basketball
as planned, and did very well. But I managed to sprain my ankle. Luckily it
was not a severe sprain, I came down funny on my left ankle and pulled my
Anterior Talofibular ligament just a bit (just a 1st degree sprain nothing
that’ll kill me.) thank god for my athletic training background I am able to
manage it properly and still be active. I chose not to run on Tuesday, just
gave the ankle some rest and lots of ice.
Wednesday I went to my boxing class. It rocked. The class was very cardio
intensive but it was another opportunity to see how far I have come
cardiovascular wise. I can’t wait till I’ve got my technique down so I can
start sparring.
Saturday’s big run was a ten miler. It rocked. This was my first run with
real running shoes (I got myself a pair of Asics and they are money). The
issues I was having last week with energy were resolved. Instead of changing
my diet before I ran I changed it while I ran. There are these money little
things called energy gels and they are the best janx ever. Basically an
energy gel is simple carbohydrate in a form that resembles pancake syrup. If
you eat a few as you run, you feed fuel to your body at a low digestion cost.
Because it’s syrup the carbohydrate goodness just jumps into your
bloodstream, and you spend very little time actually digesting it. So I made
it trough the run (all the way through with no unscheduled walk breaks.) As
a matter of fact I ran so well that I moved up two pace groups in during the
run. From 13:30 per mile to 12:00 per mile. Hopefully I can get to the
ten-minute mile group soon (that squads just a bunch of Hotties).
Sing your praises to cheese
I slept through classes. Thus officially tripling the sleep I'd gotten this
week thus far. Yay! I needed the sleep.
I did get up and rushed to work. When I got there, Haifa wasn't in. So I
hunted down Anna and we walked around and did the chatting thing. By the
time we got back to the elevators, Haifa got on them and she apologized for
forgetting about me.
I like this new job. I get to put things into little organized kits. I also
get to wash glassware, which is always a very relaxing thing for me.
Especially when I don't have to go through a special five step method. But I
got to do something extra special and fun today, I got to go around to all
the undergrad labs and check for drawers that were unlocked. When I found
one, I got to open it and toss in a sheet of paper that says, "Ha! I caught
you!" So if you take a 41 lab or above [41, 62, 170, etc] leave your drawer
unlocked so I can give you a nifty piece of paper. It totally bummed me out
when I went into labs with no unlocked drawers. I've also started to collect
the cool magnet pieces stuck into the boxes of gloves. So if you open a new
box, snag the pieces for me. Once I've completed the puzzle, I'll gladly
give it away, but for now it gives me something to trade with Seth.
Then when I was done I went to the AXE room and tried to do a preliminary
clean on the computer. I got rid of two zip programs as well as two versions
of Napster [we had 3]. The third version had a corrupted uninstall file.
Damn it, it will have to wait for the total computer cleanup day I have
scheduled for Thursday. I also put a shortcut to the Brothers folder on the
desk top.
By the way, if you are a brother and reading this, Thursday is a NO COMPUTER
DAY, all day. That is because it is computer clean and fix day. Need a
computer? Go visit Mo in the Venable computer lab [assuming Mo still is in
the Venable computer lab].
On my way home from cleaning stuffs, I ran into Thomas. I offered him a ride
home because it was mistily raining and I didn't want him standing out in it
for his bus. I ended up chilling over at his place. He advised me against
buying at Bolinwood, though I really did like the floor plan. On the other
hand, that apartment operates under the "master bedroom" plan, which is not
something I think I'm keen to. Two roomates, two equal spaces.
It's nothing like social studies book
Well, guys I made it here! And China looks nothing like our social studies book says it does. Beijing is a huge city – much bigger than New York City. It looks like a very modern city, and I expected to see communist police out everywhere – they are no where to be be found! People are bustling everywhere – very busy – probably too busy for their own good.
I’ve been up for two days straight – and have had little sleep, so I’m off to bed after I eat my first chinese food in China. I will write more tomorrow and hope that one or more of you are out there paying attention!
